NMDC gets nod for gold and diamond exploration in Telangana

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has decided to allow National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) to carry out gold and diamond prospecting in four districts.
Investigations were under way to find diamond in Mahabubnagar, Gadwal, Wanaparthy and Nagarkurnool districts. According to the department of mines and geology report on Telangana mineral resources and initiatives, Geological Survey of India (GSI) has proposed for exploration in Gadwal Schist belt for gold.
“Reconnaissance survey for diamondiferous kimberlite pipes was done in Suryapet district. In principle decision was taken to give NMDC investigation work. We have to check for economic viability for gold and diamond prospecting. We are waiting for the process to be completed at SOI,” director of mines and geology B RV Suheel Kumar said.
