Work proposals sought under DMF in Kothagudem

Development works in mining districts could be taken up within the 10 kilometers radius of the affected villages
Kothagudem: District Mineral Foundation (DMF) programme manager Siva Karthik Valaparla asked district officials to prepare proposals for development of infrastructure in the villages affected by mining.
He held a meeting with district heads of various departments to discuss about the scope of works that could be taken up under the DMF, which he said was setup to benefit people in India’s mining affected areas in 2015 by the Central government through an amendment in the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
Karthik informed that under the District Mineral Foundation Trust setup in all mining districts development works could be taken up within the 10 kilometres radius of the affected villages.
Proposals on development needs of the villages have to be prepared specially under various departments and they have to be submitted to the DMF through the District Collector. The people in the villages would always remember the officials who made a difference in their lives, he averred.
Works which were being executed under different governmental department should not be listed in the DMF work proposals. There was provision to assist the physically challenged people by supplying tools they need and to carry out relief works in the case of natural calamities, he added.
The officials have to assess the ground situation properly through consulting people of mining-affected areas to learn their needs. Sanitation, safe drinking water supply, public healthcare, education, skill development and livelihood, and welfare of vulnerable women, children and senior citizens could the areas where the officials lay emphasis in preparing proposals, he said.
Karthik later visited the Skill Development Centre at Pragathi Maidan and interacted with the students undergoing training. He suggested setting more such centre to help unemployed youth find livelihood.
DRDA PD Jagath Kumar Reddy, Irrigation EE Venkateshwar Reddy, Panchayat Raj EE Sudhakar, CPO Subba Rao, DMHO Dr. L Bhasker, Mining AD Gangadhar, Education AD Gamaniul, Kothagudem Municipality Manager Anjaiah and MEPMA DMC Sujatha were present.
